Pompion Caye is dedicated to promoting sustainability, conservation, and responsible resource use in our beautiful environment, while supporting the local communities that depend on tourism for their livelihoods.. Visitors to our island learn about the conservation work we do, and their contributions directly support our turtle conservation programme. We also share strategies to preserve this unique environment and to ensure that they enjoy its beauty in a responsible way.

Conservation of

Marine Turtles

Our conservation programme is carried out in collaboration with MarAlliance and the Belize Fisheries Department, and monitors the number of female turtles that arrive to the island to nest and the number of hatchlings that emerge. We mark and protect the nests, so you are likely to see these.

Coral Reef Protection

We work with Tour guides to ensure that tourists respect and maintain a safe distance from corals when snorkeling around our beautiful fringing reef. We are also in the process of establishing set routes to minimize damage to the reef from snorkelers.
